Comic #7: Visiting LACMA

Here is comic #7. Click on the image to see a larger version.

I drew my daughter's head super huge on the 5th panel. Sorry about that. I wasn't to happy with the flow of the strip but there are some parts that I enjoyed. Let me know what you think. I would really appreciate it. Hope you enjoy! ^-^

Comic #6: Starving Artist

So I walked out the door without any money on this day and I thought I'll be okay if I wait 'till I get home and eat. Yeah right. I did have some coffee in the morning though. I actually did most of this strip while I waited for an interview and used photoshop to put it all together.

Comic #4: Good Idea!

Alright! Lets do this! ^-^

Here is Comic No. 4. Click on the pic to see a bigger version. I really want to get better at this. I have so much to learn and I'm tired of just getting stuck on trying to get everything perfect. Just tried to have fun with it and go with the flow. So thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoy and I gladly appreciate if you leave any feed back (good or bad). ^-^

Happy Friday

Here are a few drawings I've recently drawn in my sketchbook or scrap pieces of paper. I really like the look of the first pic. I took some pictures of myself making this goofy face and used it as reference. The second and third pics look weird because I was drawing in the dark using a tiny little flash light to help me see. Didn't want to disturb my wife's sleep. The fourth pic I was playing with some red ink. Then the pic of the gorilla looking thing is suppose to be Chewbacca but I didn't really like the way it was turning out but I still like it.

I recently got this book called "In the Studio: Visits With Contemporary Cartoonists" by Todd Hignite. It features interviews with nine cartoonist like R. crumb, Charles Burns, Seth, and Art Spiegelman to name a few. I've read a bit of it so far and I like it but I especially like how they show the work of other artists who have influence them. Very Awesome.

Los Angeles Fire

Here are a few pictures I took near Old Town Pasadena a few days ago. It's crazy how close this thing is. The next morning we were driving out early morning and I felt like we were in a scene from "Day of the Dead". Creepy!

Sketch Quickie

Trying out my good brush. I love it. ^-^

崖の上のポニョ

So I got to see Hayao Miyazaki's 'Ponyo' a few days ago and I really enjoyed it. Visually the animation was beautiful and at times creeped me out. The story was cute and more kid friendly than the last couple of films he's done. I usually like listening to foreign movies in their original dialogue but the dub was good. I thought Ponyo was nutty. She would at times turn from human form and then to a kind of poultry form. You gotta love the imagination these guys at Studio Ghibli have when it comes down to it.

Illustration Friday: Wrapped

The Mummies is what came to my mind for this week's entry. I had fun drawing this even though it took me a while cause I need to start using my good brush instead of my crappy ones. I know I'm an idiot, but it's the only one I have and I'm afraid I'll ruin it. Eventually, I will have to face my fear. I'll use it on the next one, until then enjoy! ^-^

Illustration Friday: Modify

Here is my take on "Modify" for Illustration Friday. I'm very late this week but I still wanted to make a post for it. I'm not sure what kinda story is being told here. Maybe the robot was modified with a heart and figured that it works better without one. Maybe his heart is a bit too small and needs to modify it with a much larger one. Maybe he wants to share his heart with somebody who doesn't have one. I could go on and on... what do you think? Hope you enjoy.

Kokeshi!

Yesterday my family and I went over to the Japanese American Museum in Little Tokyo. Currently there is an amazing Kokeshi exhibit. It was beautiful and inspiring and every kokeshi doll was full of imagination. We stopped by the gift shop and they had some small kokeshi dolls for sale so we bought some for the family to design for themselves. My daughter woke up this morning ready to paint hers, that is after a game of Lego Star Wars (she loves that game). Here are some pics I shot of her kokeshi doll which reminds me of the Joker. Hmmm... I wonder if she's trying to hint that I should get her the Lego Batman Game. If you're near Downtown L.A. definitely head on over to the museum and check out this wonderful exhibit. You won't be disappointed. Kokeshi!

Blur

The last couple of days I've been walking around blind as a bat. I broke my glasses but fortunately I can get a new pair this summer. woo hoo! I always thought I could do without wearing my glasses but now I feel naked not having them. I'm still going to Krazy glue this pair back together.

Illustration Friday:Tango

Here is my very first entry to Illustration Friday! Hooray! So I really didn't know what to draw for this one and one morning after a night of drawing I saw in my mind an image of a fly thinking about learning to dance tango. I thought it was funny so I went with it. I kinda like the look of it put I still need to fix it a bit. I'll post the update as soon as I'm done with it. So there it is and I hope you enjoy it. Have a great day!

Photo Envy

Yesterday morning my wife and I went for a walk through some trails out here in Highland Park. As I mentioned before she has been taking pictures with her Iphone like crazy and I'm amazed at some of the stuff she's been capturing on that thing. Very Beautiful. We even went back out later in the evening to take more pictures. Check out her blog or Flickr page for more of her beautiful work. Happy Suanday!

Toy Break!

toy break contest

"Toy Break" is a weekly Internet show I've been watching for about a year. It features designer vinyl, plush, action figures, collectibles, events, how-tos, interviews, huge beards and more! If you're into toys and art you'll definitely dig this show.

The drawing of the big blue guy was done for a contest they're having. The contest isn't skills-based, it's more of a contest with art so it makes it nice to know there is no pressure and you can just relax and have fun with it. My drawing has a resemblance to one of the hosts who has a seriously bad ass beard.

E.A.T.R.

Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot (EATR)
Here is a sketch I drew last night of a robot that a Maryland company under contract to the Pentagon is working on. It's a steam-powered robot that fuels itself by gobbling up whatever organic material it can find — grass, wood, old furniture, even dead bodies. My version doesn't resemble any where near what the real thing looks like, of course.

Here is the link if you want to read more of the article on EATR.

"Brainstorming"

Just want to make a really quick post to let you in on what i'm doing. I'm trying to finish up a small strip and hopefully a tiny zine for this week. I'm also going to participate in Illustrationfriday.com to help get my creative juices going. You should check the site out, It's really neat and they have tons of cool artist participating. So here is a few random doodles and stuff. I'll be back soon. Enjoy! ^-^
